About Bill's PhD dissertation Minimize
My doctoral dissertation, “Transformation and Generic Interaction in the Early Serial Music of Igor Stravinsky,” explores the interaction of serial and non-serial formations in Stravinsky’s music circa 1947 - 1954 through the apparatus of transformational analysis oriented to a specialized theory of pitch-class set genera. The external examiner on my defense, Dr. Martha Hyde (associate professor of music theory, SUNY Buffalo) said, “In 25 years of advising dissertations, this is one of the best I have read. I would recommend it for publication.”

The dissertation is available through the National Library of Canada/Bibliothèque Nationale du Canada (Ottawa) ISBN 0-612-96775-1, UMI Dissertation Publishing, ProQuest, the University of Western Ontario, the MacEwan Centre for the Arts library, and the Arnold Schoenberg Centre in Vienna, Austria. The complete abstract and table of contents can be viewed on-line at Music Theory Online (MTO) Dissertation Index.
